In a large bound book, utilized by the Madison County, Tennessee Circuit Court, the RECORD BOOK, 1865-1869, pages 142-247, the federal authorities stationed in Jackson, Tennessee, for the period March 1863-May 1863, required all visitors to the city to sign their names, their places of residence, reason for being in city. The federal army kept forces in Jackson, June 1862-June 1863. This record book is on microfilm roll 481 of the public records of Madison County, prepared by the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Below are most of the names signed by Henderson Countians, by county residence, reason for being in Jackson and date.(Some days in April 1863 could not be specified strictly by day as the list "ran on".)
