Mr. Jonathan Kennon Thompson Smith of Jackson has published seven genealogical miscellanies for Henderson County. He wishes to share this information as widely as possible and has granted permission for these web pages to be created. We thank Mr. Smith for his generosity. Copyright, Jonathan K. T. Smith, 2001
It was the misfortune of some persons to die owing so many unpaid debts that their executors/administrators would apply to the county court for "insolvency" on their estates. This is one reason some persons seem just to disappear from the public records without much record of their passing. Such estates were settled with accountings made of their debts (to whom owed, how much), their credits (monies and assets available), accounting for any accrued interest and then the creditors were paid pro-rata, at a reduced rate based upon the merit of claims. This volume is kept in the office of the Henderson County Court Clerk in Lexington.
