Civil District l, page 131:

DAVID T. SPAIN, blacksmith, had turned out $1000 worth of work in the past year;4 persons worked in his shop.

ADISON & GATELY, millers, had produced 6000 bushels of meal (corn) and 3000 bushels of flour (wheat) valued at $4500 and lumber valued at $605, in the past year; 2 persons worked in their mill(s).

AMOS WALLAR, miller, had produced 50,000 ft. of lumber valued at $500 in the past year; 3 persons worked in his shop. /This is AMOS WALLER./

FOSTER & McHENRY, millwrights, produced lumber valued at $1040 in the past year; 2 persons worked in their shop. /WILLIAM FOSTER, H. M. McHENRY/

GARDNER WEBB, blacksmith, had produced 60 ploughs valued at $180;other articles valued at $580; 2 persons worked in his shop.

WILLIAM SHACKELFORD, miller, produced 7500 bushels of meal (corn), 500 ft. of lumber valued at $3750 in the past year; 2 persons worked in his mill.

KNOWLES & COLLINS, millers, produced 4500 bushels of meal (corn),2000 bushels of flour (wheat) valued at $4000 in past year; lumber valued at $2000 in past year; 2 persons worked in their mill.

W. W. DEBERRY, cabinetmaker, produced 6 bureaus valued at $850 and other articles valued at $400 in the past year; 2 persons worked in his shop.

A. H. LANTRESS, blacksmith, blacksmith, produced 150 ploughs valued at $520; other articles valued at $480 in the past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

BEAL & DIAMUND /SIMON BEAL, HOGAN DIAMUND/, tailors, produced 75 coats valued at $1400;other clothing valued at $400 in past year; 3 persons worked in their shop.

JESSE DUNKIN, tailor, had produced 60 coats valued at $1400;other clothing valued at $800 in past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

WILLIAM B. HALL, saw-miller, had cut 130,000 ft. of lumber valued at $1300 in the past year; 2 persons worked in his mill.

WILLIAM COLLINS, tanner, had tanned 1000 sides of leather valued at $2500 in the past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

WILLIAM COLLINS, shoemaker, had produced 1200 pairs of boots and shoes valued at $3000 in past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

FELIX W. HENRY, saddler, had produced 200 saddles valued at $3000 and other articles valued at $500 in past year; 5 persons worked in his shop.

WILLIAM H. McKINNEY, tailor, had produced 260 coats valued at $2600 and other articles valued at $780 in past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

SMITH & RODGERS, millers, had produced 625 bushels of meal (corn),312 bushels of flour (wheat), 957 bushels of meal and flour (corn and wheat) in past year valued at $1414; 2 persons worked in their mill.

 

Civil District 14 (?), page 134:

BONNER & HARRIS, millers, produced lumber valued at $2400 in past year; 4 persons worked in their mill.

 

Civil District 17, page 135:

JAMES MILAM, tanner, produced 400 sides of leather valued at $800 in past year; 2 persons worked in his shop.

 

Civil District 4,page 137:

JOHN SMITH, miller, had produced 6000 bushels of meal (corn) valued at $3000,50,000 ft. of lumber valued at $500 in past year; 2 persons worked in his mill.

B. M. WHITE, wagon-maker, had produced 11 wagons valued at $250;other articles valued at $250 in past year; l person worked in his shop.

 

Civil District 5, page 138:

WILLIAM McLEOD, saddler, produced 70 saddles valued at $1120; 75 bridles valued at $150; other article valued at $250 in past year; 2 persons worked in his shop.

A. E. ANDREWS, tanner, produced 800 sides of leather valued at $1600 in past year; 3 persons worked in his shop.

H. T. DAVIS, wagon-maker, produced 8 wagons valued at $175;other articles valued at $600 in past year; l person worked in his shop.

JOHN DAVIS, blacksmith, had produced 157 ploughs valued at $450,other articles valued at $300 in past year; 2 persons worked in his shop.

 

Note: Some pages of this particular schedule are missing and it seems probable also that the census enumerator simply failed to record a number of other millers, blacksmiths and other tradespeople in the schedule; even so the surviving data is interesting for the light they cast upon industrial production in the county in 1850.
