His research provides important basic research on the history of families that now live or have lived in these two counties. John[1] Bartholomew. Born, circa 1758, in NC. John Bartholomew "was a Revolutionary War Soldier, in Lieut. Col. Harrey's Company, 2nd North Carolina Battalion, commanded by Col. John Patton. He served 2-1/2 years, discharged October 1778. In 1790 he was living in Halifax District, Warren County, North Carolina, he had three sons under the age of 16. In all probability this John is the father of Jacob, John and James Bartholomew, all three men in Henderson Co. Tennessee by 1830. John Bartholomew was living in Franklin County, North Carolina on 28 Jun 1821 per Revolutionary Warrants of North Carolina." ["History of John Bartholomew" by Kathleen Moody TenBrook]

"Stephen Powers, one of the prosperous farmers of the Fourteenth District, was born in 1843 in Henderson County. . . . Stephen Powers received his education in his native county, and resided under the paternal roof until the outbreak of the war. He enlisted August, 1862, in Company A, Seventh Tennessee Cavalry, remaining in service until the surrender; was mustered out in 1865. He is a Republican; gave his first presidential vote for U.S. Grant. . . . Mr. Powers moved to his present place of residence in 1866, owning 435 acres, which he was enabled to purchase by his economy, industry and good management. He is a man of integrity, greatly respected by all who know him. He and his wife are members of the Missionary Baptist Church."
