OBITUARY
MELVIN WOMACK was born March 8, 1939 to Dora Womack Tharps in Memphis, Tennessee.
Melvin confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Peter Rock Baptist Church. At the later part of his life, he was a communicant of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Melvin departed this life on August 7, 1991 at Methodist Hospital Central.
He was member of Chelsea Lodge and a member of Shriner Moolah Temple No. 54. He was very active with the Cotton Makers Jubilee. Driver for the King and Queen of the Royal Court for several years.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his mother, Mrs. Dora Tharps; one son, Melvin T. Womack, Jr.; two grandchildren, all of Memphis, TN; six brothers, Marvin Womack, Larry D. Tharps and Michael Tharps, all of Memphis, TN, Dave Tharps, Jr., Ronald G. Tharps and Andre Tharps, all of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Marshall of Rockford, Ill, Ms. Minolar Christopher and Mrs. Sandra Franks, both of Atlanta, GA; a step-brother, James Jones of Memphis, TN; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Carrie Tharps of Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Youlanda Tharps, of Memphis, TN; two brothers-in-law, Robert Marshall of Rockford, IL and Billy Franks of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves to cherish a very special person who helped cared for him, Ms. Carrie Willis. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends to mourn his passing.
