WILLIAM HOWARD died in Henderson County, Tennessee, March 30, 1858, leaving a widow, URSULA HOWARD who died in July 1860.Their children: SAMUEL HOWARD, BENJAMIN F. HOWARD, ROBERT J. HOWARD, JOHN HOWARD, FRANCES, wife of SAMUEL PARKER, MELVINA N., wife of ADAM W. HARMON and AGNES, wife of RICHARD C. BLAIR.

In the biographical sketch of SAMUEL HOWARD in the Goodspeed's HISTORY OF TENNESSEE, Henderson County (Nashville, 1887), page 849, is noted that SAMUEL HOWARD, born in N.C. in 1823 was a son of WILLIAM and URSLY (Henson) HOWARD, both of English descent and both natives of North Carolina. The father was a farmer and came to Henderson County in 1825. "He was one of the first white settlers and most successful farmers, owning about 1000 acres of land. He died in 1868 /1858/ and his wife two years later. To them were born twelve children."

In a transcript of a letter written by David Y. Davis of Carroll Co., Tenn. to his brother, Green A. Davis of Union Parish, La. (provided the present writer by Brenda Fiddler of Lexington, Tennessee), dated July 4, 1851, he mentions, "John Halbrook lives with me the present yeare and tends my farm." Perhaps this John Halbrook is the same man who appeared in the 1860 census of Henderson County as John Holbrook.
