PARSONS, Tenn. — Two years in the Cub Scouts has earned for O. C. Jordan III more badges than his fellow cub scouts. The outstanding Cub Scout from Den No. 3 has such a good record he is waiting until fall to give his brother cubs time to catch up.
The blue eyes blond said, "I joined the Cub Scouts when I was eight years old. My first requirement was to earn the Bobcat which required me to learn the Cub Scout promise, the laws of the pack and its meaning, tell what the Webelos mean, show the cub scout sign and handshake to give the Cub Scout motto and salute and their meaning."
When I gave the promise I stood, gave the cub scout sign and said, "I promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and My Country, to be square and to obey the law of the Pack."
When I completed the Bobcat test I was ready for my Wolf Badge. The wolf trail is divided into 12 parts. Each part is called an achievement.
At the age of nine I started on my Bear badge. It was fun as I followed the bear tracks in my scout book. I galloped across the trail on almost every page, following the tracks from achievement to achievement, he explained. Each time I completed an achievement my Dad or Mom signed the page and I cut the corners of the pages off to show where I was on the track.
After the bear badge Arrow Points were next. He was allowed to choose from the lists of things to do. Ten credits are required to receive a Gold Point arrow. His first requirement was to make a model of some well known boat, then to draw four pictures of any well known type of boat such as punt, skiff, lifeboat, whale boat or dory, draw a picture of a rowboat and oars and explain the parts.
Other requirements of interest he has completed are making a weather vane, making a solid scale model plane, making a centerpiece for a table decoration, make and play a home-made musical instrument, bottles and many other things.
He has earned and received his gold Arrow point and two Silver Arrow points. "I have two more awards to earn but I'm not old enough to start on one of them and my den mother, Mrs. Janice Dininger, suggests that I wait until the others catch up.
