Versatility Is Keynote Of Student

PARSONS, Tenn. — With just cause, classmates of Sheila Doyle voted her most talented, friendliest and school favorite in the recent Riverside High School's "Who's Who" selection. Shelia also is among the top 10 honor students.

A senior at Riverside High School, Shelia is considering a career of teaching. "I hope to receive a degree in elementary education," the brown-eyed student said. "I feel like teaching is a good profession for a woman. Even after marriage and a family she can return to the profession," she pointed out. Shelia plans to enroll at Memphis State University for the fall term.

If her talent for friendliness and helping students in high school is any indication there is no doubt that she will make a success of whatever career she chooses.

She is president of Future Teachers of America, secretary of the Math Club, reporter for the Beta Club, member of the National Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll Club.

A member of the journalism class, she is class editor for the "Riverside Journal" and co-editor of the yearbook, "Memories."

The versatile youth has taught two baton classes at Linden and Parsons for the past two years. "I have students from the first grade through the seventh grade," she said. She has taught baton classes for the past four years.

Sheila has been in the band for the past nine years. In her sophomore year she was head majorette and sophomore football maid. In her junior year she was Junior Class Favorite.

In her junior year she was secretary of the Senior 4-H Club of which she had been a member since the fourth grade. Her heavy schedule doesn't permit her to be a 4-H club member this year. She also was first maid in the "Miss Parsons Jaycees" contest when a sophomore.

A member of the First Baptist church, she plays the piano and organ for youth events. She helps in the primary department and has a perfect eight year Sunday School attendance. She also is a member of the Riverside High School chorus.

In her spare time, Shelia enjoys swimming, boat riding and cooking. "I like to experiment with new recipes," she said. She prepares the evening meal on Saturday for her mother, who works often.

In regard to the youth of today, she said, "I think youths are not understood at times and are judged before the facts are revealed. Older persons seem to forget they were once young. The youth ‘as a whole' are not really bad."

Her theory is "Do a good deed daily" and life will be much happier.

The 17-year-old senior lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maxie Doyle at 322 Tennessee Avenue North in Parsons. She has three brothers, Chris, 10; Mickey, 21; and Donnis, 25.
